The present-day Ristorante Calzavecchio existed for over 400 years. Originally called “Osteria dei Calza” it used to be a stabling inn that offered good wine, excellent food and the deserved rest for those who came down the mountains to reach Bologna or vice versa.
It was when the inn owners, given the good earnings, decided to build a new inn in the city centre, the “Calzanuovo” (New Calza), that the old one was named Calzavecchio (Old Calza).
Some of the specialties were very renowned like the “tagliatelle al pasticcio”, so that every Sunday and mostly on the Easter’s Monday, many people from Bologna went rushing to the Calzavecchio, spending a pleasant day in a calm and rustic atmosphere.
After World War II the hotel-restaurant was rebuilt to continue offering its traditional hospitality. Today it opens again after a two years long radical renovation that has completely transformed it into a modern accommodation facility, keeping the classic shapes and the ancient charm...
